In my opinion generally hard drive space is eaten up by duplicate files. Now you may think I don’t have duplicate files. But the majority of users do have such files and maybe you are among those users. There are different reasons that may cause duplicate files. You may download some files and place them to some secure place so that you can use those files when you need them and you don’t have to download them once more. But you may forget location where you placed your files and think maybe I deleted those files. Then again you download those files while those are already in your hard drive.
So this is not easy to find all replica files and delete them. But there are a number of tools that can search for such duplicate files for you
dupeGuru:
dupeGuru is one of best tools that can search for duplicate files and this is available for MAC, Linux and Windows. It is freeware so you don’t have to pay anything. There are three editions of it.
- dupeGuru
- dupeGuru Music Edition
- dupeGuru Picture Edition
In most cases we get duplicate files of music and pictures. So dupeGuru got separate versions for searching those files easily. It is safe to use and it will delete only those files you want to delete and not those that are important to you and you don’t want to erase. You can customize its engines to make it work as you like.
Its music edition supports all major audio types like MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, FLAC, loss-less AAC and loss-less WMA. Its picture edition supports JPG, PNG, TIFF, GIF and BMP formats. According to its website dupeGuru picture edition will compare all supported formats so that no duplicate image is left on hard drive.
I think this got all major features but if you want to know about some more tools then have a look below.
